Gaffney, S.C. ? Richard Willis Harkrider, 77, formerly of 135 Fawnhurst Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Physical Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Spartanburg.

Born in Peoria, Illinois, he was first married to the late Jackie Harkrider, was the widower of the late Cynthia Kelly Harkrider and son of the late Willis Oscar Harkrider and Alice Clydajean Sthrothers Harkrider. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired as a combat engineer from the U.S. Army and served with the 1st Calvary at Fort Hood, Texas. He was a mason and of the Catholic faith. He was a stamp and gemstone collector and loved westerns, especially John Wayne movies.

Surviving are a son, Jason Willis Harkrider and wife, Ariana, of Fort Riley, Kansas; a daughter, Anndrea Annette Docena and husband, Bart of Richmond, CA; two stepsons, Joseph Melton Kelly and wife, Lisa of Maiden, N.C. and Leonard Joel Kelly and wife, Angie of Belmont, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Heather Margrace Kelly of Gaffney; ten grandchildren, Valerie Colleen Wiatrek, Eddie John (E.J.) Rosemeier, Christian Alexander Harkrider, Iris Ranae Harkrider, Ashton Kelly, Jessica Kelly, Katelyn Kelly, Dylan Sexton, Hope Sheppard and Mitchell Sheppard. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carrie Delois Harkrider and a stepson, Jeffrey Sosa.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Blakely Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Gaston Memorial Park with Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: American Legion, Post 109, P.O. Box 1522, Gaffney, SC 29342.

The family will be at the home of Heather Kelly, 704 S. Johnson Street, Gaffney.
